The Chattogram District Administration has launched an experimental initiative offering students free entry to Chittagong Zoo in exchange for plastic waste.
Under the initiative, students can enter the zoo without paying an admission fee by submitting at least 100 grams of plastic waste along with a valid student ID card.
Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Zahidul Islam Miah announced the initiative as part of efforts to raise awareness about plastic pollution and encourage students to participate in environmental protection.
Seven Students Submit Plastic Waste
The initiative received a positive response on its first day, when seven students submitted plastic waste.
Around 700 grams of plastic waste was collected from the participating students, according to the Chattogram District Administration.
The collected waste is currently being kept for recycling, with zoo authorities coordinating with the Chittagong City Corporation to convert the plastic into usable resources.
The initiative aims to encourage students to dispose of plastic responsibly while creating greater awareness about the environmental impact of plastic pollution.
Administration Takes Stand Against Topsoil Cutting
The District Administration also reiterated its strict position against the cutting of agricultural topsoil for brickmaking.
The administration said the issue remains an important concern as it works to protect agricultural land and promote environmentally responsible practices.
The plastic-for-entry initiative is being implemented on an experimental basis as part of broader efforts to increase public awareness about environmental protection.
