State Minister for Road Transport and Highways Division and Railways Ministry Habibur Rashid Habib, MP, today said the government would take necessary steps to enhance the capacity of Mugda Medical College and Hospital (MMCH) and make it more effective in providing quality healthcare to low-income people.
“Mugda-Basabo is a densely populated area with many low-income families. Government hospitals need to be made more effective to ensure healthcare for these people alongside enhancing the capacity of MMCH,” he said while addressing a function at the hospital as the chief guest.
Habib, also the lawmaker of Dhaka-9 constituency, said poor people in Mugda, Basabo and Sabujbagh largely depend on government hospitals for treatment.
He stressed the need to enhance the hospital’s capacity and improve its supporting infrastructure to ensure quick and quality treatment for patients.
The state minister also urged private organizations and social groups to come forward with support for improving healthcare services and infrastructure at government hospitals.
“Cooperation from private organizations and social groups, alongside government initiatives, is important to ensure improved healthcare services. Such cooperation can further enhance transportation facilities, patient services and other infrastructural capacities of hospitals,” he said.
During the programme, Habib handed over a microbus and a pickup, sponsored by a private organization, to the hospital authorities. He also inaugurated a collection booth and an electronics booth at the hospital.
The donated vehicles will be used for various purposes of the hospital, while the newly inaugurated booths are expected to facilitate and expedite patient service activities.
Habib thanked the private organization for its support and expressed hope that such cooperation would continue to contribute to improving the quality of services at government hospitals.
He said government hospitals should be made more modern, capable and people-friendly to ensure healthcare for all.
“For this, doctors, officials and employees, as well as all concerned stakeholders, need to play their respective roles responsibly,” he said.
The state minister also stressed the need to improve overall hospital management and support facilities alongside treatment services.
Doctors, officials and employees of MMCH and other concerned persons attended the function.
