Students Attempt Second Road Blockade at Parliament
Protesting students take position in front of the South Plaza of the National Parliament House in the capital.
Students want the education minister to resign. Protesters attempted a second Parliament House road blockade on Tuesday, July 14. Earlier, around 6:30 PM, students claimed police baton-charged them. Eyewitnesses said law enforcement used force to clear the South Plaza area.
Failed Talks with Officials
A group of students went inside the parliament building after police cleared the crowd. These representatives wanted to speak with officials. Waiting for about two hours yielded no results. Furthermore, the students claimed they could not meet any key authorities or receive promises.
The delegation then came outside to join the waiting crowd. Protesters sat on the road again. Setting up barricades stopped traffic and started another Parliament House road blockade. Participants chanted slogans. They promised to continue the protest until the government meets their demands.
One protester stated, “No positive response was given to our peaceful program. We were told they would talk, but no one did. So we have taken to the streets again.”

Allegations Against the Police
A female student complained about the police baton charge. Only male officers were present during the incident. She noticed no female police personnel there. Stating her frustration, she said, “We girls were in the front.”
This student also claimed officers pushed them to the ground. Police did not immediately answer these allegations.

Exam Decisions and Current Situation
Students noted they have exams the next day. Right now, protesters have not decided if they will take the tests. Leaders plan to announce their final choice later at a press event.
Many youths stayed in the South Plaza area even after dark. Police officers also remained on high alert nearby.
Demonstrators said they returned to the streets because the government took no real action. Tension now fills the area. The ongoing Parliament House road blockade continues to stop local traffic.
