Prime Minister Tarique Rahman today began implementing the government’s decision from his own office to drop \u201cHonourable\u201d and other honorifics before his title in official documents and communications.<\/p>\n

The Prime Minister has also started using the digital attendance system at his office like other officials and employees.<\/p>\n

The process of removing \u201cHonourable\u201d before the Prime Minister\u2019s title from files, documents and other official communications began at the Prime Minister\u2019s Office (PMO) this morning, according to the Cabinet Division.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
Tarique Rahman attended office at the Secretariat this morning and marked his digital attendance before entering his office, a senior PMO official told BSS.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
A Cabinet Division circular issued yesterday said that \u201cHonourable\u201d, \u201cHis Excellency\u201d or any other honorific should not be used before the titles of the President, Prime Minister, ministers, state ministers and deputy ministers in official communications, documents and summaries.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
Officials concerned said the Prime Minister had decided to put the directive into practice at his own office, with officials instructed to use only \u201cPrime Minister\u201d instead of \u201cHonourable Prime Minister\u201d in files and other documents submitted to him.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
They said the move reflects the Prime Minister\u2019s approach of giving greater importance to public service and accountability than to formal descriptions of office.<\/p>\n

Additional Secretary of the Ministry of Public Administration Md Sakhawat Hossain told BSS that his ministry had already circulated the Cabinet Division\u2019s directive to all ministries, secretaries, divisional commissioners, deputy commissioners and upazila nirbahi officers (UNOs).<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
\u201cImplementation of the circular has started from today. There should be no deviation from the directive in official correspondence or important documents in future,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
He said the directive had also been communicated across the administration through official documents and digital platforms.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
Joint Secretary of the Cabinet Division\u2019s District Magistracy Branch Tanvir Ahmed told BSS that the circular had already reached field-level administration offices across the country.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe received a few letters today where implementation of the circular was visible,\u201d he said, adding that the directive to drop honorifics before the President and Prime Minister\u2019s titles was being fully implemented from today.<\/p>\n

He said action would be taken if any office was found violating the directive.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
The Prime Minister\u2019s use of the digital attendance system is part of a broader approach to following regular office procedures.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
Since assuming office, he has also taken measures to reduce unnecessary protocol and personal prominence in government activities, including restricting the use of his photographs in official publicity, reducing the number of vehicles in his motorcade and avoiding traffic signal stoppages during his movement.<\/p>\n

He has also refrained from using a flag-bearing vehicle except at official state events at home and abroad.<\/p>\n
